Low Vision:
Below
is a letter we received from a teacher for the visually impaired. It
explains why the Adapt-a-Lap is an important low vision aid and how
he uses it.
I want to personally thank you for sending me the Adapt-a-Lap. This
sturdy and inexpensive tool is a personal source of amazement to my
colleagues and I. I teach students who are visually impaired and the
Adapt-a-Lap is an extremely useful low vision device. It enables my
students to bring material up close for a more comfortable working position.
When using the Adapt-a-lap most of my students can literally get their
noses to the printed word, while maintaining good posture and therefore
reducing muscular strain and fatigue.
In use with a prescription aid, the Adapt-a-lap assists my students
with restricted visual fields when using the techniques of reading scanning,
tracking and tracing. The product construction makes it possible for
students to get close enough to the reading matter to accomplish near
vision tasks and enjoy reading without blocking out helpful illumination
or shadowing the reading material By tilting the board, illumination
is adjustable to student's preference, and glare can be eliminated.
As I experiment with your innovation, I find it a most excellent multi-use
low vision tool A few of my low vision clients have hand tremors, poor
hand coordination and one has only the use of his right hand. The Adapt-a-lap
stand holds reading material flat, providing a good surface for stand
magnifiers, and freeing up ones other hand from having to hold the reading
materials.
Thank you once again for sharing the Adapt-a-lap with us. It is an
excellent product and I truly hope you will get the word out to other
vision professionals and the people who will truly benefit froth such
a fine aid.
- Low Vision:
Low vision Clinics and Colleges of Optometry both use and sell the
Adapt-a-Lap. They find that it is the best book holder. It supports
those heavy large type books. For the farsighted, it can support reading
material beyond their arms reach. For others, it supports books anyplace
on the body, thus leaving the hands free to hold a magnifier or a
pen. Those who scan their reading and writing material into a TV or
Computer for magnification use the Adapt-A-Lap as a lap desk while
sitting in a comfortable chair, recliner or lying in bed.
